Worcester Experiencing a Food Renaissance: The Boston Globe

The Boston Globe features Worcester and its explosion of new food establishments in the city. It's booming, and the foodies are going nuts.

WORCESTER, MA—These days, you've got some serious choices when you've decided you're going to go out to eat. Less than a decade ago, there were a few games in town, followed by chains and fast food. It made foodies frustrated, and date night difficult.

Now, Worcester is galloping ahead, with the Boston Globe calling the city's expansion in the food realm a "bona fide restaurant renaissance." Some 55 new restaurants have opened in the past 18 months, with everything from Deadhorse Hill to the Hangover Pub to the BirchTree Bread Company.

The Boston Globe points to people investing in the city, and enticing younger people to move to Worcester for fields of health care and medical research. The CitySquare Project, too, is proposing $470 million in private developments in the downtown area.

"Take a look at the numbers and it’s clear why talent from larger, more-established markets might be drawn to Worcester," writes Globe author Leah Mennies.
