Worcester Gets $2.3M In MassWorks Grants For Street Upgrades
The two grants will pay for projects near Polar Park and in the Great Brook Valley area.
WORCESTER, MA — State officials came to Worcester on Tuesday to award two MassWorks infrastructure grants for two separate projects in the city.
The two grants total $2.3 million and will fund improvements near Polar Park and in the Great Brook Valley area. Both grants are connected to housing developments.
A $1.25 million grant will help pay to rebuild Spruce Street between Green and Washington streets. That's where a 77-unit apartment development called the Table Talk Lofts will go at the site of the pie maker's former headquarters.
The second $1 million grant will help rebuild Brookview Drive, which overlooks Great Brook Valley Park near the Curtis Apartments.
"By supporting key infrastructure and roadway upgrades, we can help leverage additional private funding that will lead to new housing, new retail opportunities, and green spaces, which combined offer further proof that Worcester is truly a city on the move," Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito said in a news release.
