Worcester Gets Tree City USA Award, Holy Cross Tree Campus USA Recognition
Worcester is a proud "tree city," honored by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

WORCESTER, MA—The Department of Conservation and Recreation presents the Tree City USA award to 88 Massachusetts communities this week, including Worcester. College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, too, is being recognized as a Tree Campus USA designation.
On Wednesday, June 7, 2017, Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Deputy Commissioner for Conservation and Resource Stewardship Priscilla Geigis presents the National Arbor Day Foundation’s 2016 Tree City USA Award to 88 Massachusetts communities, two Tree Line USA Award to utility companies, and four Tree Campus USA Awards to colleges and universities for their dedication to urban forestry management. The program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation and is administered by the DCR.
The presentation takes place at Arlington's Town Hall auditorium at the event on June 7 that runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the awards taking place from 1-3 p.m.

Communities to receive Tree City USA recognition includes: Amherst, Andover, Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Beverly, Boston, Boxford, Brockton, Brookline, Cambridge, Chatham, Chelmsford, Chelsea, Chicopee, Danvers, Dedham, Duxbury, Easton, Everett, Fall River, Framingham, Grafton, Great Barrington, Greenfield, Groton, Hanscom A.F.B., Haverhill, Hingham, Holyoke, Ipswich, Lanesborough, Lawrence, Leominster, Lexington, Longmeadow, Lowell, Ludlow, Lynn, Malden, Marblehead, Marion, Marlborough, Mattapoisett, Maynard, Medfield, Medford, Monson, Nantucket, Natick, Needham, New Salem, Newburyport, Newton, Northampton, Orleans, Peabody, Petersham, Pittsfield, Plymouth, Quincy, Reading, Rochester, Sandwich, Saugus, Sheffield, Somerville, South Hadley, Springfield, Stoneham, Sturbridge, Sutton, Swampscott, Wakefield, Walpole, Waltham, Warren, Watertown, Wellesley, West Bridgewater, West Springfield, Westborough, Westfield, Weston, Westover A.R.B., Weymouth Winchester and Worcester.
Colleges and universities to receive Tree Campus USA recognition includes: College of the Holy Cross, Smith College, UMass-Amherst, UMass-Lowell.
