From Worcester Public Schools: The Worcester Institute for Parent Leadership in Education will hold its first graduation on Tuesday, Dec 6th, at Worcester East Middle at 6pm. WIPLE is an initiative that provides parents with skills and tools to ensure their children graduate high school and attend college. Worcester is the first location in New England to have been selected to be licensed for this program.

The organization is expecting between 40 and 50 parents to graduate. Worcester Public School Chief Academic Officer, Marco Rodriguez, will speak along with community partners who have actually trained alongside instructors/educators to carry out this new program.

WIPLE is a parent engagement institute that was founded through the partnership among the African Community Education (ACE), the Latino Education Institute (LEI) at Worcester State University, the South Eastern Asian Coalition (SEAC), The Worcester Community Connections Coalition (WCCC), the Worcester Educational Collaborative (WEC), and the Worcester Public Schools (WPS).

WIPLE’s mission and objective is to provide parents with seminars to equip them with the knowledge, skills and tools to partner with schools and community to ensure that their children achieve their full potential. WIPLE is based on the nationally recognized Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) based in California. Through PIQE’s parent empowerment model anchored in economic and social justice for all in education, they have graduated more than 605,000 parents in the last 28 years and impacted the lives of more than 1,800,000 children across the United States. Worcester Public Schools is proud to have been selected as the first district to license the PIQE Parent Engagement model in New England.

The first WIPLE parent engagement Institute was launched this Fall 2016 at Worcester East Middle School with great success. More than 100 parents were in attendance to orientation sessions that took place in the morning and the evening. Many parents registered for the full module and their graduation for the first WIPLE seminar will take place on Tuesday December 6th at 6:00 pm. WIPLE seminars will be expanded to at least two more schools in the Spring of 2017.
