WORCESTER, MA — A man accused of throwing a 7-year-old girl off a bridge into a lake six years ago is now facing rape charges, according to the Worcester District Attorney's Office.

Joshua Hubert, 41, of Worcester, was arraigned Wednesday on one count of aggravated rape of a child with force and one count of rape of a child aggravated by age difference.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Hubert was indicted in 2018 on two counts of attempted murder, one count of kidnapping a child under 16, and strangulation or suffocation, according to the Worcester county district attorney’s office.

Hubert was charged with throwing the girl off a Lake Quinsigamond bridge on Aug. 27, 2017. He was held on $2 million bond at the time.

Hubert was a friend of members of the victim’s family and was at a cookout with them the day before the crime. He allegedly put the girl in his car in the early hours of Aug. 27, strangled her, and threw her off the I-290 bridge over Lake Quinsigamond.

The girl swam to shore and sought help at a nearby home on the Shrewsbury side of the lake, suffering non life-threatening injuries.
