Worcester Man Charged With Car Theft, Assault: Police

A man is facing charges after he stole a car, then hit the car's owner while driving away, according to police.

WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man was arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft and assault, according to police.

Police were dispatched to Woodbine Street Nov. 30 at 8:05 a.m. on a report of a stolen vehicle. Police spoke with witnesses who reported that a black Honda had been left running a home's driveway when a man entered the vehicle and began to drive away.

The car thief struck a parked vehicle, then the car's owner came outside and began banging on the window. The driver hit the car owner's leg and drove away.

At about 9:15 a.m., police found the stolen car on Endicott Street. The car's driver, Carlos Torres, 20, was arrested.

He was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the of an accident with injury, and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
