Worcester Man Charged With Gun, Drug Crimes On ShotSpotter Call
Police said the man had what appeared to be fentanyl, cocaine, and a loaded handgun on him when he was when arrested.
WORCESTER, MA — A man is facing drug and gun charges after police pursued him following a ShotSpotter activation.
Police were patrolling the area of Fox Street at 6:22 p.m. Tuesday when they received a ShotSpotter activation for the area of Arlington Street. ShotSpotter is technology that uses sensors to alert officers when shots are fired.
A warrant had recently been issued for Hector Perez, 26, of Worcester, in connection with a previous shots-fired incident, according to police.
An officer spotted Perez driving a red Mercedes on his way to the ShotSpotter activation. A police officer stopped Perez, who opened the car door and began to run toward Pattison Street, police said.
Perez reached toward his waist band during the pursuit. A second officer arrived and police took Perez into custody.
Police searched Perez and his vehicle and said they found bags of what appeared to be cocaine, a bag of what appeared to be fentanyl, a loaded handgun, and prescription medications. Perez does not have a license to carry firearms, according to police.
He was charged with trafficking in a class B substance 18-36 grams, possession of a class B substance with intent to distribute, possession of a class A substance with intent to distribute, possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of ammunition without an FID card, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest.
