WORCESTER, MA — A man was arrested Wednesday on allegations that he assaulted a police officer and illegally possessed a gun, according to a police statement.

Officers stopped a white Hyundai around noon on Irving Street. The officer ran the plates and found that the car was uninsured.

Police saw three people enter the car and called for backup before stopping the car on Chandler Street.

Officers spoke with the people in the car. A passenger, Osiris Berry, 20, pushed one of the officers to the ground and ran away, police said.

As this happened, officers saw what they believed to be a handgun in Berry's hand. Following a short foot pursuit, police found Berry on Bancroft Street and arrested him.

Police found a handgun with an extended magazine near Berry.

He was charged with possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, carrying a firearm without a license, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and trespassing.

The car was towed.
