Worcester Man Wanted In Burncoat Slaying Turns Self In: DA

Kelvin Verde was ordered held without bail Monday on a murder charge after police released his picture last week.

WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man has become the third person to face charges following the October slaying of Andrew Barley in the city's Burncoat neighborhood.

On Monday, Kelvin Verde, 23, turned himself in to authorities. Worcester police on Friday sought help finding him. Verde was ordered held without bail after a court hearing Monday and will appear in court again on March 13.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said he also charged Luis Cotto, 30, in November with being accessory to murder in connection to the killing. Berny Calderon, 25, was charged in January with murder, home invasion and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Calderon will next appear in court on March 23, and Cotto on March 8.

Worcester police responded to a shooting along Burncoat Street near Croydon Road just after 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 24. Police found Barley at the scene with gunshot wounds, but was later pronounced dead at a Worcester hospital.
