WORCESTER, MA — A group of talented Worcester Public Library patrons will have their work displayed on library cards this winter. The library system is running a contest in September seeking designs from the public during National Library Card Sign-up Month.

Here's more from a Worcester Public Library news release:

The Worcester Public Library (WPL) will be running a library card design contest in honor of National Library Card Sign-up Month, during the month of September. There will be three winners, one from each age group, youth (11 & under), teen (12-17), and adult (18 & older). Limited edition library cards featuring the top designs will be available in the winter of 2022-23.

"In many ways we feel your library card is your most valuable card and therefore ours deserves a remodel,” said Kate Sawisch, access services coordinator. “We can think of no one better than the dynamic art community of this city to help leave their mark on the library.”

Entries must be received from Sept. 1 to Sept. 30. Artwork can include computer generated or digital photographic submissions or paper submissions using colored pencil, pen, paint, markers, et cetera.

Three finalists by category will be selected by a committee, and announced on Oct. 14. Public voting will begin at that time, and end on Oct. 31, with winners to be announced after votes are compiled.

Patrons can find additional details, rules, and a template for their design on the library website, or pick up an entry form at any Worcester Public Library location.

WPL be offering free replacement cards during the month of September. The library will also be taking part in the United Way’s Day of Caring on Sept. 16 as part of the National Library Card Sign-up Month celebrations.
