WORCESTER, MA — Worcester Public Schools students will be dismissed three hours early Friday due to a forecast of hot temperatures.

All Worcester schools will close three hours before their regular dismissal times on Friday, June 12, according to the district. All after-school activities and programs are canceled and there will be no morning or afternoon preschool.

Administrative offices will remain open during regular hours.

This comes amid hot and humid conditions across the state all week. Temperatures in Worcester could reach highs of 92 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday with heat index values as high as 96 degrees and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between noon and 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service forecast.

School leaders have been advised to follow hot-weather procedures, including ensuring students have access to plenty of drinking water and adjusting activities as needed, according to the district.
