WORCESTER, MA — Worcester will soon be home to a large Black Lives Matter mural like those seen painted on streets from New York City to Washington to Seattle.

The mural will be painted along Major Taylor Boulevard near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in downtown Worcester. Artists will begin painting the mural on Wednesday, and will likely finish by Saturday.

The location is symbolic. Major Taylor is one of Worcester's largest Black icons. He began his cycling career as a teenager growing up in Worcester. He went on to become one of the first Black Americans to win a world championship in any sport.

The United Way of Central Massachusetts spearheaded fundraising for the $12,000 mural.
