Worcester Woman Pushes Intruder Out With A Broom: Police

The man, 32-year-old Oniz Janniere of Fitchburg​, was found carrying two double-edged knives​, police said.

WORCESTER, MA —Worcester police rushed to the scene on Gibbs Street overnight Wednesday to interrupt a home invasion that left a woman fending off the intruder with a broom, the department said in a news release.

Police said they arrived to find the woman yelling out the window saying "He’s trying to get inside" as she pushed a stranger — who continued to try to enter through the door after it was locked — back with a broom.

The man, 32-year-old Oniz Janniere of Fitchburg, was found carrying two double-edged knives, police said.

He was arrested and is facing charges of attempting to commit a crime (armed burglary), two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace, according to police.

No additional information was immediately available from the police.
