Young Girl, Mother Injured By SUV Driver In Worcester

The 5-year-old was in critical condition Monday after the collision along Stafford Street, police said.

WORCESTER, MA — A 5-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after getting hit by an SUV driver Monday morning along Stafford Street, according to Worcester police.

The girl was with her mother around 9:30 a.m. Monday when the pair were attempting to cross Stafford Street near the Shaw's supermarket plaza. A driver traveling northbound hit them, police said. The girl's mother was seriously injured in the collision, police said.

"Upon arrival, Worcester Firefighters were medically assisting a 5-year-old girl, who had been struck by a vehicle and was unconscious. The girl’s mother had also been struck, and was conscious but could not move," Worcester police said in a news release.

Police did not immediately release a reason for the incident, and did not announce any charges. The driver stayed at the scene, police said.
