Most people agree that meditation is good for reducing stress and promoting healthy living. Yet, very few people actually meditate. The problem is there are fears and several myths surrounding the practice. A yogini would love to step in to a 90-minute sweaty, heated vinyasa class but may dread to sit in meditation for 10 minutes. Why? Typical excuses: “It’s too hard”, “I can’t sit still”, “I think too much", "I can’t keep my mind clear of thoughts”. Unfortunately, these are just myths surrounding what we expect meditation to be. In this workshop, we will demolish these myths, simplify the idea behind meditation and provide you with a practical way to use meditation as a tool to enhance your lifestyle. We will explore different styles of meditation, e.g., breath-focused vs. open-focused meditation, sitting vs. standing/walking meditation, compare and contrast these styles, and help you develop tools and techniques to cultivate your practice. The intent of this workshop is for you to walk away with first-hand knowledge and clarity as to how meditation can really be beneficial for *your lifestyle* and how you may leverage it in day-to-day interactions and situations. Just like a physical workout, you may find yourself wanting fitness for the inner witness.
