U.S. officials are now investigating the disappearance of a Michigan woman in the Bahamas as a possible murder, according to a CBS report.
The news comes as officials have expanded their search for Lynette Hooker, who has been missing since April 4. Her husband, Brian Hooker, told officials she fell overboard from their small motorboat while they were traveling to Elbow Cay in the Bahamas.
Brian Hooker was arrested and questioned by Bahamian police on April 8. He was then released on April 13 without charges.
But U.S. officials have now been granted permission to search new areas of the Bahamas after investigators said Brian Hooker's statements don't match the GPS data they pulled from his devices.
That new evidence includes the Sea of Abaco, where divers will search for Lynette's body, according to the CBS report.
Investigators have also been to the Abaco Inn, which was the last place Lynette was seen alive.
Brian blamed bad weather for the incident and said he lost sight of Lynette as she was swept away by the ocean current. He has since said that he will not stop looking for her and has heard stories that some people have survived for weeks after falling overboard in the Bahamas.
Brian has since left the Bahamas to care for his very ill mother, NBC News reported.
The couple has been married for more than 20 years and chronicled their adventures sailing around the Caribbean on their "Sailing Hookers" Facebook page.
They posted videos in 2023 of buying a sailboat they named Soul Mate in the coastal town of Rockport, Texas, and then embarking on a cruise through the Gulf of Mexico from the port town of Kemah, Texas.
