2 Tornadoes Hit MI, EF1 Damages 40 Homes

Two tornadoes touched down in Michigan on Tuesday and damaged dozens of homes, according to the National Weather Service.

The first tornado happened in Freeland, located in northern Saginaw County.

Forecasters said the EF1 touched down at 1:11 p.m. just north of Sarle Road near Webster Road with winds reaching 90 miles per hour.

It tore through the neighborhood for roughly three minutes, lifting the roofs and siding of roughly 40 homes, according to NWS.

The tornado also flipped and tossed several RVs and large campers, as well as damaging several trees in the area, according to NWS.

There were no injuries reported.

A second tornado touched down five minutes later in a farm field in Montrose, which is roughly 42 miles south from Freeland, according to NWS.

Forecasters said the brief tornado was weak and did not cause any damage or injuries in the area.

There was a tornado warning farther south in the Detroit area, though forecasters have not confirmed a tornado touched down in the area.

The tornadoes and warnings come as powerful thunderstorms cross the state amid dangerous heat and humidity.

More severe thunderstorms are expected across Michigan, especially in the Detroit area on Wednesday and Thursday.
