Severe Storms Possible Across Metro Detroit Wednesday Amid Extreme Heat
Highs could climb into the 90s with heat indices reaching 100 degrees in some areas.
Powerful thunderstorms could hit the metro Detroit area Wednesday night as dangerous heat settles in the area, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters expect the storms to cross the area between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. though they could hit as early as 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The primary threats will be heavy downpours, large hail, winds reaching up to 60 miles per hour and possibly a tornado.

A heat advisory is also in effect for the Detroit area Wednesday. Highs are expected to climb into the 90s with heat indices reaching 100 degrees in some areas.
Temperatures will be just as hot Thursday with an even greater chance for severe storms, according to NWS.

Most of southeastern Michigan was placed under a slight risk (level 2/5) for severe weather Thursday. Some areas west of Detroit were placed under an enhanced (level 3/5) threat.
Those storms will be capable of heavy downpours, large hail, winds greater than 70 miles per hour and isolated tornadoes, according to NWS.
Thursday's highs will again reach the 90s with the real feel closer to 100 degrees, according to NWS.
Any lingering showers and storms should fade away by Friday morning as highs drop back into the 80s and through the weekend, according to NWS.
Temperatures will be even cooler to start next week with highs falling into the 70s, according to NWS.
