Couple Killed, 4 Others Hurt In SE MI Crash: Police

Police said speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI — An elderly couple died and four other people were injured in a Saturday afternoon crash in Lenawee County, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on East Monroe Road near Matthews Highway in Tecumseh Township, according to police.

Police said a red Ford Taurus collided head on with a blue Chevrolet Equinox on East Monroe Road.

The driver of the Equinox, an 85-year-old man, and his passenger, an 82-year-old woman, were killed in the crash, according to police.

The couple was from Tecumseh, according to police.

The driver of the Taurus, a 76-year-old man, and his passengers, a 74-year-old woman, a 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, all from Adrain, were injured in the crash, according to police.

They were all taken to ProMedica Hickman Hospital with severe injuries, but they are all expected to recover, according to police.

Police do not know what caused the crash. Investigators have ruled out alcohol and speed as factors.

Police were still investigating the crash.
