DETROIT — An iconic Detroit pizzeria has new owners.

Buddy's Pizza, known as the originator of Detroit-style pizza, was sold to local entrepreneurs Saber Ammori, Andrew Dickow and Kevin Denha.

The group bought Buddy’s Pizza from CapitalSpring LLC, which has been invested in Buddy's since 2018. It was unclear how much the group paid for the pizza shop.

Dickow is a managing director of investment bank Greenwich Capital Group in Birmingham, while Ammori and Denha are the co-founders of major T-Mobile retailer Wireless Vision in Birmingham and real estate and retail investors.

The group said they grew up with Buddy's Pizza and consider it a "defining part of Detroit's cultural identity."

"For us, this is deeply personal," Dickow said. "I still remember walking to Buddy's as a kid and grabbing a slice. The crust had that unmistakable crunch, the pizza felt premium in a way nothing else did, and it was the highlight of my day. Buddy's has always been more than a meal. It is a part of Detroit's fabric, and for a lot of us, it is tied to family, tradition, and memory."

The new owners also said they will work to grow the pizzeria, with a focus on Buddy’s customer experience, product quality and brand reputation.

Buddy's Pizza is best known for their Detroit-style square pizzas, typically topped with pepperoni, brick cheese and sauce. The pizzeria was founded at the corner of Six Mile Road and Conant Street in Detroit in 1946. Before that, it was a speakeasy known as Buddy’s Rendezvous.

Since then, the pizzeria has grown to more than 20 locations, with most in the Detroit area.
