MICHIGAN — A Michigan lottery club used change from spare cans to buy a $1 million Mega Millions ticket, according to Michigan Lottery officials.
The three-member Winfield lottery club from Fenton matched the five white balls (08-17-40-60-70) in the May 17 drawing to win the big prize, according to lottery officials.
The club bought the winning ticket at the Kroger store, located at 700 North State Road in Davison, according to lottery officials.

The club told lottery officials they have been playing the lottery for more than 30 years. They added its members take back bottles and cans to save money to buy lottery tickets, according to lottery officials.
"Shortly after the drawing, I remembered I hadn’t checked our Mega Millions ticket yet, so I pulled up the winning numbers and looked the ticket over," a club member told lottery officials. "When all the numbers matched except the Mega Ball, I thought: ‘I’m not seeing this right.’ I had my husband look the ticket over and once he confirmed what I was seeing I called the other club member to tell her the big news. We both felt like we were going to be sick from being so nervous!"
