BENTON HARBOR, MI — A server who received a $10,000 tip while working at a Benton Harbor restaurant last week was recently fired from her job, according to a report.

Mason Jar Café co-owner Jayme Cousins told News 8 the firing was a "business decision" and "not affiliated with the tip she received."

"I know there is a lot going around that we let her go because of the tip and that’s just not logical," Cousins told the news station. "(W)e have a staff that has continued to work for us for years and college kids that come back every summer and we give chances after chances to our staff, so we clearly would not let someone go for no reason at all."

"In a time where so much is happening, we wanted to share and thank the person who did this life-changing act. Things can feel real heavy sometimes, but this was such an amazing act to have seen first hand in our restaurant," restaurant members said in the now-deleted post. "So to everyone doing what they can for themselves, and for others, we see you, thank you, and appreciate you. Keep sharing the love where you can folks."
