MI Swimmer Drowns In Lake Michigan Off Grand Haven Shore: Report
The 21-year-old man was swimming in Lake Michigan off the shore in Grand Haven State Park before he was swept away, reports said.

GRAND HAVEN, MI — A 21-year-old man was found dead Sunday by rescue crews in Lake Michigan off the shore of Grand Haven State Park, according to a report from Wood TV, citing the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.
Officials identified the man as Jonathan Mendez from Wyoming, Michigan, and said he went missing while swimming in Lake Michigan before he was swept away from shore just before 4 p.m. Sunday, officials said.
His body was found in the water by a Coast Guard helicopter about two hours after he went missing, officials said.

Initially, first responders and beachgoers organized human chains in the water in an attempt to find him, officials said. Moreover, the Coast Guard also dropped a rescue swimmer into the water as part of the effort, officials said.
So far in 2022, there have 62 drownings in the Great Lakes, a number that is likely to grow, making for another high-death year, according to a report from The Detroit News.
