MI Toddler, 16 Months, Drowns In Lake Close To Home: Sheriff

Officials do not know how the child got into the lake and were still investigating the incident.

BUTMAN TOWNSHIP, MI — A 16-month-old child drowned in a northern Michigan lake last weekend, according to the Gladwin County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened at 7:40 p.m. Saturday at a home on Lake Lancer in Butman Township, officials said.

Officers were called to the home on a report of a missing child. While searching the area, officers found the toddler unresponsive in the lake a short distance from his residence, officials said.

Life-saving measures by deputies and medical responders were unsuccessful, officials said.

Officials did not release the child's name.
