MICHIGAN — Some Michiganders were treated to a spectacular show Thursday night when a blast of northern lights turned the sky into a curtain of colors.
The sky in upper Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula danced in waves of green, purple and red lights, with some stargazers saying it was the best they've ever seen.
The aurora was so strong that even Michiganders in downtown areas where there's typically a lot of light pollution caught a glimpse of the lights.

The lights were also seen in a handful of other states, including Washington state, Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota and New York, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologists said it's possible the northern lights could dazzle parts of Michigan again Friday night, but warned the blast of solar energy was expected to weaken by the nighttime hours.
