Police Catch Woman Trying To Cross Closed Mackinac Bridge: Report

The woman was ticketed for disobeying a lawful order of a police officer and disregarding a traffic control device, 9&10 News reported.

MACKINAW CITY, MI — A woman was caught by police Thursday trying to cross the Mackinac Bridge while it was closed due to falling ice, according to a report from 9&10 News, citing the Mackinaw City Police Department.

The 69-year-old Newberry woman was ticketed for disobeying a lawful order of a police officer and disregarding a traffic control device, the report said.

Officers said the woman was parked at the south end of the bridge on Thursday around 4:15 p.m. when she told police she was tired of waiting for the bridge to open and just wanted to go home, the TV station reported.

After a discussion with officers, the woman left the bridge, but returned about an hour later and began driving northbound across the bridge on the southbound lanes, police said. The woman drove about one mile on the bridge before police caught her and escorted her off the bridge.
