Semi Truck Driver Shot Dead After Violent Fight With MI Police: MSP

ST. JOSEPH TOWNSHIP, MI — A semi truck driver was killed Monday night in southwest Michigan after a violet fight with officers, according to Michigan State Police.

Officers went to check on a semi truck driver in the area of Carronde Park area near Riverbend Drive in St. Joseph Township on Monday evening when the driver rammed into a police cruiser and a nearby home, according to police.

The 42-year-old Tennessee man, who was driving the semi truck, then got out of the vehicle and ran away from officers, according to police.

Police eventually caught the man and a violent fight broke out with officers as they tried to arrest him, according to police.

During the fight, an officer fired a shot, striking the man who was then immediately taken to Corewell Health Spectrum Hospital where he died, according to police.

The officer involved in the fight suffered minor injuries and was placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation, as per department policy, according to police.

No other officers or residents were injured in the altercation, according to police.

Police were still investigating the shooting.
