Small Earthquake Strikes In Lake Michigan: Officials

The small earthquake registered a magnitude​ of 2.9, according to the U.S. Geological Survey​.

MICHIGAN — A rare earthquake struck in Lake Michigan last week, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The small earthquake hit at 9:18 a.m. Friday roughly 25 miles off the coast of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin with a magnitude of 2.9, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Sturgeon Bay is almost directly across from Traverse City.

Officials do not believe the earthquake caused any damage and no big waves were reported in Lake Michigan.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 was felt in St. Clair in St. Clair County and Corunna, Ontario last December, according to Canadian officials.
