This Small MI Town Is Among Most Underrated Winter Travel Spots: Study

FRANKENMUTH, MI — A popular travel website picked one little Michigan town as one of the most underrated places for winter travel.

Frankenmuth, known as Michigan’s Little Bavaria due to its German heritage and architecture, ranked No. 5 for most underrated winter vacation destinations across the nation, according to a study done by FamilyDestinationsGuide.

The study said the beautiful Bavarian-inspired town transforms into a winter wonderland during the colder months.

"Its picturesque streets, adorned with festive lights and decorations, create a magical atmosphere. Families can enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, ice skating, and snow-covered landscapes that look straight out of a holiday postcard," the study said. "Don't miss out on Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, the world's largest Christmas store, for an enchanting shopping experience."

The study was made up of over 3,000 experienced travelers were surveyed to determine the top 150 underrated winter travel destinations.

Two other Michigan towns made the is as well: Houghton at No. 43 and Munising at No. 90.

  3. Creede, Colorado
  4. Tok, Alaska
  5. Frankenmuth, Michigan
  6. Waimea Town, Kauai, Hawaii
  7. Ashland, Nebraska
  8. Arrow Rock, Missouri
  9. Mineral Point, Wisconsin
  10. Cedar Key, Florida
