Snow Accumulation, Heavy Rain In MI Forecast This Week
Some parts of Michigan can see up to a foot of fresh snow this week, as part of a massive storm system crossing the Midwest and Ohio Valley.
MICHIGAN — Heavy snow and rain will sweep across Michigan this week as part of a larger system moving across the Midwest and Ohio Valley, according to the National Weather Service.
The powerful weather system will move into Michigan on Tuesday and dump several inches of snow across the northern regions of the state while the lower half should see mostly rain with some snowflakes, according to the weather service.
Forecasters expect the massive storm to dump roughly 5 inches of fresh snow in northern Michigan, especially the eastern half in areas around Alpena by Tuesday night, according to the weather service.

In the lower half of the state, including southeastern Michigan, heavy rain and possible snowflakes will cross the region, according to the weather service.
Forecasters expect severe weather along the widespread system that will move across the Midwest and Ohio Valley Tuesday evening, but any severe threats should stay south of southeastern Michigan, according to the weather service.

An additional 4 inches of snow is expected to fall across northern Michigan by Wednesday evening, while southeastern Michigan will see on and off rain showers throughout the day, according to the weather service.
Forecasters expected parts of western Michigan, mid Michigan and the Upper Peninsula to see up to 3 inches of fresh snow from the storm, according to the weather service.
Light snow showers will continue falling in northern Michigan Thursday morning, while more rain will move into southeastern Michigan, but this time there could be some light snow showers mixed in, especially in the northern areas of metro Detroit and up toward the Thumb region, according to the weather service.
Sunshine finally returns to Michigan, including southeastern Michigan Friday when temperatures reach the upper 40s, just in time for the Detroit Tigers home opener at Comerica Park in Downtown Detroit.

Monday: Rain; High 50, Low 41
Tuesday: Rain; High 48, Low 39
Wednesday: Rain; High 45, Low 36
Thursday: Rain/Light Snow; High 45, Low 33
