More Snow, Then Sleet And Freezing Rain: MI Weather

Forecasters warned the weather system can create dangerous driving conditions during Tuesday's morning commute.

SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN — A significant weather system will bring snow, freezing rain and ice to southeastern Michigan early this week before temperatures warm up in the region, according to the National Weather Service.

All of southeastern Michigan is under a winter weather advisory from 7 p.m. Monday through 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Snow will start falling across southeastern Michigan sometime Monday afternoon before transitioning into freezing rain as temperatures warm into the low 30s overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas north of Interstate 69 should see all snow with totals ranging between 2 to 6 inches, while areas south of Interstate 69 should see 1 to 2 inches of fresh snow before it shifts to freezing rain and sleet Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters warned light ice accumulation is possible in areas around metro Detroit, creating icy conditions and slippery roads during Tuesday's morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.

The freezing rain in areas around metro Detroit should shift to all rain by Tuesday afternoon when temperatures climb toward 40 degrees in the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas north of Interstate 96 in western Michigan should see mostly snow, while areas south of Interstate 94 in western Michigan should see mostly freezing rain and ice, according to the National Weather Service.

More rain is expected across southeastern Michigan Wednesday and Thursday as temperatures warm into the mid 40s, according to the National Weather Service.
