Tree Cutter Killed In Southeast Michigan: Sheriff

Officials said the worker was fatally struck in the head by a falling tree limb.

MONROE COUNTY, MI — A tree cutter was killed Saturday in Monroe County, according to sheriff's officials.

The fatal incident happened at 7:05 p.m. Saturday in the area of Timber Lane near South Dixie Highway in Monroe Township, officials said.

Officials said three men from the Dayton, Ohio area were hired to cut down a tree at the Monroe Township home.

While cutting the final section of the tree, which officials estimated to be roughly 30 feet in length, one of the workers grabbed the rope as it fell, officials said.

The falling tree limb fatally struck the 50-year-old man in the head, officials said.

Officials were still trying to determine why he grabbed the rope.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is also helping with the investigation.
