• Van Buren Twp board sends special land use for BESS back to planning commission (bellevilleareaindependent.com) — Van Buren Township trustees have sent a controversial 200-megawatt battery storage project back to the Planning Commission for more study after safety and health questions, rather than denying it outright. In the same meeting, they approved a Belleville Road Overlay District to allow taller buildings and backed rebuilding a gas station at 11530 Belleville Road. Officials also heard concerns about rifle hunting inside the township. 
• UNC remains among elite company in the race for five-star Sydney Savoury (keepingitheel.com) — Belleville native and five-star basketball standout Sydney Savoury has narrowed her college choices to six powerhouse programs, including North Carolina, UConn, and Notre Dame. She's already visited USC and UNC and has more official visits scheduled this month. Her rise as a top national recruit puts Belleville on the map in elite women's basketball circles.
