Berkley Environmental Advisory Committee Commends Debbie Meske as Berkley Recycler of the Year for 2012

The City of Berkley’s Environmental Advisory Committee is pleased to announce the Recycler of the Year award was presented to Debbie Meske at the City Council meeting on Monday, December 3, 2012.  The Recycler of the Year is awarded based on nominations from the community.  The Environmental Advisory Committee selected the winner from among the nominations submitted by Berkley residents during the month of October.

Ms. Meske was selected as the winner in 2012 because she is an exemplary recycler who recycles household goods, reuses products when possible, and makes an effort to use recycled or post consumer products when possible.  Ms. Meske also is a steward for recycling in the community and encourages others to participate in recycling by providing opportunities to recycle to her friends and neighbors.  Ms. Meske also ensures that when she plans events there are ample opportunities to recycle during these events.  The Berkley Environmental Advisory Committee commends Ms. Meske for her leadership in recycling by example for the City of Berkley, and thanked her with a gift certificate to a local restaurant and a reusable shopping bag.

About the Berkley Environmental Advisory Committee:

The Berkley Environmental Advisory Committee (BEAC) is a volunteer board whose purpose is to research and recommend ways to reduce city-generated pollution, increase recycling rates, and improve mass transit and non-motorized transportation opportunities for the city.  The BEAC consists of three key subcommittees covering energy efficiency, recycling, and transportation.  Committee meetings are the 1st Wednesdays of the month, 7:00 pm, 2nd floor conference, Berkley Public Safety Building, and are open to the public.
