This Saturday, March 23rd, the Michigan Running Club will depart Hart Plaza in Detroit Michigan and run across Michigan in 24 hours, arriving on the shores of Lake Michigan in the early morning on March 24th.  The run is a charitable endeavor and the participants raise money for the Special Olympics.  The Michigan Running Club is the largest athletic club on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  The Michigan Running Club has maintained this tradition for the past five years.  For the past two years, the club has raised money to support the Special Olympics of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. Last year, the club raised over $10,000 and this year have set a goal to raise more than $15,000.

This year, the relay will begin at 6am on March 23rd at Hart Plaza in Detroit and will continue for the next 24 straight hours until the club reaches the beaches of lake Michigan in South Haven. The route will follow Michigan Avenue out of Detroit and turn onto Geddes as the club meets up with some of the Special Olympic athletes in Ann Arbor. The route continues out of Ann Arbor on Jackson road and ultimately ends up on Old U.S.-12 until they reach Kalamazoo. The last 33 miles of the race follows the Kal-Haven Trails system until ultimately ending on the shores of lake Michigan early on the morning of March 23nd.
