Voter Registration at Oakland County High Schools March 18 & 20

With elections coming up on May 7, Lisa Brown, Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds, is making voter registration available for our youth on site at two local high schools.

• Berkley High School, 2325 Catalpa Dr., March 18, 12-1 p.m.

“Voting is a fundamental right of American citizenship, and I encourage young people to begin voting as soon as they’re eligible,” said Brown. “By bringing registration services to the schools, we’re helping to make students’ voices heard.”

To expand this effort’s reach, Brown invited local clerks to join her for these events.

In Berkley, Brown will be joined by Cheryl Printz (Berkley), Joy Solanskey (Huntington Woods) and Ed Norris (Oak Park).

At the West Bloomfield event, Brown will be joined by Catherine Shaughnessy (West Bloomfield Township), Linda Voll (Keego Harbor) and Dennise Dryden (Sylvan Lake).

Students who are 17-and-a-half years old can register, and should bring state-issued identification with them to complete their voter registration.

“If you don’t register to vote in person, then the first time you vote must be in person,” said Brown. “That means an 18-year-old who is away at college can’t vote by absentee ballot. I want to do all I can to make it easier for people to vote.”
