Cop Who Saved Man From Burning Minivan: 'I'm No Hero'
St. Clair Shores Police Officer Jason LaTour helped pull a 60-year-old Grosse Pointe man from a vehicle fire earlier this week.
A St. Clair Shores police officer is shunning the hero label after saving a 60-year-old man from a burning vehicle earlier this week, according to a Detroit Free Press report.
Officer Jake LaTour, a 20-year veteran on the force, told the Free Press he was just in the right place at the right to do “the right thing” when he pulled a Grosse Pointe man from a minivan that was on fire June 2, on Harper Avenue.

LaTour, 49, credits the help from the other people at the scene from helping turn a potential tragedy into a story with a relatively happy ending, the report stated. A retired Detroit police officer, a nurse and three other people all aided in rescuing the man, the report added.

Two people “selflessly went up to the van,” according to LaTour, and one individual even brought two fire extinguishers to the scene, according to the report.
“I am not a hero and kudos to those other people,” LaTour told the newspaper.
