Fiddler's Fest - String Summer Music Camp!

A summer music camp for violinists, violists, and cellists from ages 8 to 13.

Fiddler’s Fest is a summer music camp for violinists, violists, and cellists from ages 8 to 13. The camp takes place from August 17th to August 21st (Monday thru Friday), with a final concert on Saturday, August 22nd. Each camp day is from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.

The main purpose of the camp is to develop students’ musical skills and abilities at playing in variety of ensemble types.

Daily activities will include chamber music coaching, string orchestra rehearsal, and a solo recital with a snack break halfway through the day.

The camp is run by several high school students who are members of the Berkley High School Symphony Orchestra and have extensive musical training, but there will be adult supervision at the camp.

Students will be sorted into small chamber groups based on experience, where they will rehearse both independently and led by a coach. Music will be carefully selected for the groups, so as to challenge, but not overwhelm the students. Rehearsing in a smaller group with other musicians will allow students to improve their listening skills and figure out how to approach any problems in the music.

As well as playing in chamber groups, all of the students will be in a string orchestra where they will rehearse several songs, led by a coach. In this orchestral experience, students will learn about teamwork and cooperation, self-discipline and dedication, and working with one another towards a shared goal.

All participants will also have the option of performing a solo piece at a recital for their peers. This is strongly encouraged as a means to foster self-expression, creativity, and self-confidence.

The tuition for the camp is $100, which includes music, music binder, daily snack, and a camp T-shirt.

The deadline for registration is August 1st!
