Get Out: Super Bowl Party, Teen Dinner, Blues Fest

Berkley and Huntington Woods residents have lots of options for weekend fun, including a UFC event and library book sale.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Berkley Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars, restaurants and shops to explore.

1. SUPER BOWL PARTY

Where/When: , 3071 W. 12 Mile Road; 6 p.m. Sunday

Find out what's happening in Huntington Woods-Berkleyfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Why Go: Hosting a Super Bowl party can be a lot of work, so why not skip the cooking and just watch the big game on 20 giant screens? 24 Seconds has all sorts of food, from salads and wraps to burgers, wings, ribs and more – and there’s no clean-up required (unless you forget your wallet, I suppose). You can even win a 24 Seconds gift certificate by putting your name in a square: The winner at the end of the first quarter will win a $25 gift certificate; second quarter, a $50 one; third quarter, $100; and the person who has the winning square at the end of the game will win four Red Wings tickets, plus a parking pass. Get there early, though, because only the first 100 people get a square. But everyone gets $1 off all well drinks, draft beers and appetizers.

Pricing: No cover

2. UFC 126 VIEWING PARTY

Where/When: , 3071 W. 12 Mile Road; Saturday night. Countdown show begins at 6 p.m., preliminary fight card starts at 9 p.m., and the main card at 10 p.m.

Why Go: Super Bowl, Schmooper Bowl. Some people like their sports a little, shall we say, bloodier? But watching Ultimate Fighting Championship 126 at home could cost you upwards of 50 bucks on pay-per-view. Spend your money on food and beer instead, and watch the matchup Brazilians Anthony Silva and Vitor Belfort (and 20 other fighters) go at it at 24 Seconds instead.

Pricing: No cover

3. TEEN PROGRESSIVE DINNER

Where/When: Start at the , then on to three restaurants. E-mail tshanley@ci.huntington-woods.mi.us or call 248-541-3030 for more information. 4–10 p.m. Friday.

Why Go: What a fun idea! The City of Huntington Woods’ annual Teen Progressive Dinner is this weekend. Middle and high school students are invited to go on an adventure where anything can happen (OK, not anything – mostly just eating – but the destinations are a secret). Eat appetizers at one restaurant, entrées at another, and dessert at yet another. Teens are advised to dress for the weather, as this trip may include an outdoor leg.

Pricing: $15 for transportation and supervision. Food cost is extra. (Suggestion: Bring small bills, to make it easier for the group to pay.)

4.

Where/When: , 26415 Scotia Road; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

Why Go: Winter is a great time to get some reading done: There are no pesky barbecues, parades, outdoor festivals or camping trips to get in your way. But new books and e-readers are expensive these days. And since the words are the same whether you’re reading Jane Eyre in hardcover or paperback, on Kindle or Nook, you owe it to yourself to check out the Huntington Woods library’s monthly book sale, put on by the Friends of the Library. You could pick up a masterpiece for less than a cup of coffee.

5. FERNDALE BLUES FESTIVAL

Where/When: Various venues in Ferndale, the festival runs through Feb. 6 and Friday's festivities begin at 8:30 p.m.
