• Gogebic County rejects push to recover unsaleable goods (yourdailyglobe.com) — County commissioners meeting in Bessemer have rejected a proposed ordinance that would have required retailers to donate or recycle unsaleable goods, citing enforcement and resource concerns. They also advanced millage proposals for the Gogebic Medical Care Facility and animal control services, backed a national forest timber project, and approved youth sports funding. The next board meeting is May 13 at the county courthouse in Bessemer.

• Paul David Carlson (yourdailyglobe.com) — Family and friends in Bessemer are mourning Paul David Carlson, a Vietnam veteran and former Ironwood resident who later made his home in Tomah, Wisconsin. Survived by his brother Bruce in Bessemer and many extended relatives, Paul will be laid to rest this spring at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood. Cremation has already taken place, with arrangements handled by Lakeside Memorial Chapel.
