4 Birmingham Commissioners Won't Be On Nov. 3 Election Ballot
The deadline to file nomination papers for the four open positions is coming up.

Four Birmingham city commissioners say they plan to retire from city politics at the end of their terms and won’t be on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Retiring are longtime commissioners George Dilgard, Tom McDaniel, Scott Moore and Gordon Rinschler, Hometownlife.com reports.

There was no acrimony in their decisions. They simply decided it was time turn over the reins of city government to others.
“It’s been a great run, but it’s time,” said McDaniel, who’s wrapping up his 12th year as a commissioner. “It’s probably time for a change, and change is usually good. I’m certainly hoping we can turn it over to others who also love their community and want to serve.”

At least three candidates – De Angello Espree, Barry Powers and Corey Jacoby – have already submitted nomination papers for the vacancies. Candidates have until 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, to file their nomination petitions with the city clerk’s office.
Registered voters who have lived in Birmingham for at least a year are eligible to run for the positions.
