The adult services section, located in the 1981 Birkerts addition, was slated for demolition in a failed $21.5 million bond proposal in 2014.

During the remodeling, radial shelving will complement the curved walls in the addition, three glass-enclosed study rooms will be added and two bands of exterior windows will allow more natural light into the area.
