Birmingham Police May Have Found Owner of Found Money

Police got "some pretty comical" phone calls when they notified public of thousands of dollars of money found on street.

BIRMINGHAM, MI – Police may be a step closer to solving the mystery of the owner who lost thousands of dollars in cash found on a Birmingham street last week.

The money was found on Henrietta Street, south of Maple Road, on March 10, and “turned it in to do the right thing and hopefully turn it in to find the owner,” Birmingham Police Commander Scott Grewe told Patch last week.

The police department put out the word that officials were looking for the rightful owner, which generated a great deal of attention.

“We did receive several phone calls — some pretty comical,” Grewe told The Birmingham Eccentric.

“But we have narrowed it down to one person and it seems like it’s probably his money,” he continued. “We’re just doing a couple of things to verify his information and follow up on everything to make sure we give it back to the right person.”
