Birmingham Art Walk returns Thursday, September 17, from 5–8 p.m., bringing local artists, live music, special retailer offers and more to Downtown Birmingham.
Attendees can stroll through participating businesses, discover local artists and enter to win prizes, including ATG Detroit tickets to The Notebook. A Grand Prize Gift Basket, valued at over $700, includes four theater tickets, a 220 Merrill gift card, finds from Portland Leather, a BBAC gift card and more.

Birmingham Village Players

Once On This Island, the first production of Birmingham Village Players (BVP) 104th season, is the story of a peasant girl who falls in love with a wealthy boy and makes a deal with the gods to save his life. The musical is loosely based on the Hans Christian Anderson fable “The Little Mermaid” and uses the culture, folklore, music, myth and the storytelling traditions of the Caribbean to tell the tale.
At the center of the story are the scene-stealing Gods: Asaka, Mother of the Earth, played by Melanie Jones of West Bloomfield; Agwe, God of Water, played by Kodie Chandler of Southfield; Papa Ge, Sly Demon of Death, played by Odera Office from Detroit and Daelin Whitfield from Dearborn Heights; and Erzulie, Beautiful Goddess of Love, brought to life by Stacey Barrett of Detroit.
But are they stronger than the power of love? Find out when the musical Once On This Island runs from Sept. 18-Oct. 4 at Birmingham Village Players. Individual tickets cost $30. The Goddess of Love is Watching in "Once On This Island" at Birmingham Village Players

“Once On This Island is a celebration of blackness, the richness of Caribbean culture and the beauty that Haiti was once known for,” said Director Daniel Valentine. “The heart of Once On This Island is resilience, love, hope, community, and the power of storytelling.” 
Valentine is the Director of Once On This Island, the first production of Birmingham Village Players (BVP) 104th season and he has a powerful story to tell. 
“Representation matters,” said Valentine. “This is a story that should be true to the culture it comes from so we chose an all-black cast and all the key positions behind the scenes are filled by black professionals. There is so much amazing talent in metro Detroit, but very limited opportunities for audiences to see it. This is a show that lets them shine.”
