AUTHOR PHILIP GULLEY TO SPEAK

Beloved Indiana author and Quaker pastor Philip Gulley will be speaking at the First United Methodist Church in Birmingham on Tuesday, May 10 at 7:00 PM.  Gulley has become the voice of small-town American life and is the author of 15 books including the acclaimed Harmony series of novels chronicling life in the eccentric Quaker community of Harmony, Indiana and the best selling Porch Talk series of inspirational and humorous stories.  He is also a co-author of the books If Grace Is True and If God Is Love, written with James Mulholland.
Gulley continues to pastor at Fairfield Friends Meeting near Indianapolis.  He hosts the television program "Porch Talk with Phil Gulley” on the Indiana PBS affiliate WFYI and their flagship show Across Indiana, for which he recently received an Emmy Award.   He also writes the popular monthly Home Again column for Indianapolis Monthly Magazine.  His newest book called If the Church Were Christian, was released January, 2010.
BOOKLIST compares Gulley to Garrison Keillor, Annie Dillard, Wendell Berry and Kathleen Norris. “He writes as cleanly as they, and perhaps with greater range, encompassing the tooth fairy, cheap shoes, middle-age spread, chairs, and simplicity.”

“Philip Gulley is a Quaker pastor from Indiana with a charming sense of small-town life -- and a shrewd sense of life in general.” ~THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
