Help the Birmingham Firefighters Association 'Fill the Boot' for Muscular Dystrophy

This Friday, the Birmingham Firefighters Association will brave the chilly weather and head out to the corner of Old Woodward and Maple to raise funds to find a cure for muscular dystrophy.

It's all part of the 'Fill the Boot' event that firefighters across the country are participating in. In partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, since 1954, 280,000 International Association of Firefighters groups have raised $275 million for the cause.

This year, the BFFA L911 will stake out Old Woodward and Maple from 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Oct. 12. They need the community's help as they work to fill a firefighter's boot with donations.

"Through 'Fill the Boot', firefighters across North America are raising money for MDA," said Paul Wells, BFFA President. "MDA is working hard to find a cure for muscular dystrophy along with providing treatment and support for the 100,000's of Americans that are living with this neuromuscular disease."

The Birmingham Fire Department will also be hosting its annual Open House on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 1 - 4 p.m. Come learn about fire safety, EMS emergency management and more.
