Mark Your Calendar for Halloween Fun in Birmingham

Sunday, Oct. 18, is going to be an orange kind of day in downtown Birmingham.

The Junior League of Birmingham is gearing up for its 22nd annual Pumpkin Patch Halloween celebration from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, on the terrace of the Community House in downtown Birmingham.

The fun includes bounce houses, nut-free harvest snack stations, a Pumpkin Patch photo station and games for children of all ages. Attendees are encouraged to dress in costumes, then take part in the annual Birmingham Halloween Parade, sponsored by the Birmingham-Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce.

The parade begins at 4 p.m. at the corner of Bates and Martin streets. Both events are free and open to the public.

Noting that the average American eats 25 pounds of candy each year, much of it consumed during the Halloween season, the Junior League purposely doesn’t hand out sugary treats at the Pumpkin Patch event, according to a news release.

Other events around Birmingham that day include the Birmingham Farmers Market End of the Season Celebration from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The market is located at 666 N. Old Woodward Ave., in Lot 6.

Children are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes for the following activities:

  • Trick-Or-Treating (farmers will pass out treats);
  • Hayrides;
  • Corn shelling;
  • Live music;
  • Children’s pumpkin craft;
  • Pumpkin carving demonstrations all day.

There’s still more fun on tap. From 3-4 p.m., a Spooky Halloween Magic Show will be held at Baldwin Public Library, 300 W. Merrill St.

Magician Gordon Russ will present the show. Registration is required, so call (248) 647-1700 to reserve a spot.
