Need to Know: The World's Longest Lemonade Stand

A group of teachers, students and parents from and will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the longest lemonade stand from noon-4 p.m. Saturday in Beverly Park.

The event will both raise funds for Birmingham Public Schools and celebrate National Lemonade Day, held today nationwide.

“Every kid wants to start a lemonade stand,” Beverly parent Pat Liebler said. “And as for the Guinness book of world records, (to kids), there’s no higher award.”

. The finished stands will be connected by extension pieces, linking the collection to form what organizers hope will be the longest stand in the world. Currently, the record for the world’s longest lemonade stand is 2,571 feet, 6 inches, set June 6 in Satow, Germany.

While selling lemonade isn’t exactly the intent of the event, Liebler said that to set the record, each stand will have to offer lemonade for sale for around 10 seconds on event day.

Lineup of events

Noon: Official event kickoff

12:30 p.m.: Lemon Flare games

• Super sour "one mile" sprint

• Longest chalk drawing spectacular

1:20 p.m.: Man your stand! (Games will close.)

1:30 p.m.: Lemonade pass

• Lemonade will be poured beginning at the outermost stands and passed from one end to the other

1:40 p.m.: Participate in the official photo for the Guinness World Records book near the main stage.

• Participate in a sing-along of the national anthem and the Lemonade Song

1:50 p.m.: World record announcement (main stage)

2:30 p.m.: Games

• Kickball

3:30 p.m.: Closing ceremonies

• Lemonade stand design and raffle winner announced
