Stretch of Woodward South of Birmingham Part of MDOT's 2013 Construction
MDOT will spend $4.8 million resurfacing more than five miles of Woodward just south of Birmingham.

The Michigan Dept. of Transportation's $187 million construction program for 2013 includes a stretch of Woodward just south of Birmingham's borders — meaning there could be problems with some residents' commutes.
According to a press release posted by the State of Michigan, the state will spend $4.8 million to resurface more than five miles of Woodward Avenue, between 14 Mile and Oakridge Boulevard in Ferndale.
In total, MDOT plans to "improve 80 miles of pavement and repair 15 bridges in the MDOT Metro Region."

"Our 2013 program focuses on stretching our dwindling funds to best preserve our vital roads and bridges," said Metro Region Engineer Tony Kratofil.

- A $4.5 million investment to resurface more than 14 miles of southbound I-75 between M-15 and County Line.
- A $2.2 million investment to repair the pavement on I-696 between I-275 and Orchard Lake Road, and between Woodward Avenue and Dequindre Road
- A $19.2 million investment to resurface 9 miles of Dixie Hwy. between Telegraph Road and I-75
