When the 1869 Hill School was demolished in 1969, its bell was rescued and cared for by the Birmingham Public Schools until formally donated to the museum in 2007.

The Birmingham Museum recently raised the target amount of $55,000 to complete the construction phase of the Hill School Bell Outdoor Structure Project. This goal was met with generous donations from the Rosso Family Foundation, in addition to other private donations and several grassroots fundraising efforts undertaken since 2011.
The Hill School Bell Outdoor Structure is a visually appealing and protective gazebo-like structure inspired by the original cupola from the Hill School. It will be installed this summer in the plaza area between the Allen House and the Hunter House, with greater visibility and accessibility to passersby.
Pavers are available on a first come, first served basis with limited quantities available. Costs for the pavers range from $100 to $250, depending on location.
